Here is a way to add a printer with the IP address. IP Addresses look like this: 192.168.xx.xx and you will have to get it off the printer before you start.

  1. Open control panel (you can do a search for it down on the bottom left) type control and open it.
  2. Click on 'devices and printers'.
  3. Click on 'add printer' on the top.
  4. Click on the bottom blue link that says "Printer I want isn't listed".
  5. Click on the line that reads "add a printer by tcp/ip address"
  6. Click next
  7. Change device type from auto-detect to tcp/ip
  8. Where it says "hostname or ip address" put in the 192.168.xx.xx number.
  9. Click next on the left side and select the manufacturer (HP is what we have a lot of). On the right side select the printer model, if the correct one is not listed you can select "windows update" and it will take some time and add to the list; or, on the left side select Microsoft and then on the right select 'PCL6 class driver'. Select 'next'.
  10. Use the driver installed or use a new one. Click next, name the printer, click next, select 'do not share this printer', click next, do a test print if it shows up.
